Power generation and heavy industrial noise control

Noise control for power stations, process plants and heavy industry, from pressurised discharge to atmosphere through to gas turbine intake and exhaust systems.

• The source that most often sets the specification for a whole site is discharge of pressurised fluid to atmosphere from starting valves, vent valves and relief valves. It is the loudest event on the plant, it is short, and its timing cannot be chosen.
• Gas turbine intake and exhaust attenuation has to be worked out against the back pressure the machine will tolerate. Adding attenuation without that constraint takes output straight off the machine.
• Large industrial fan intakes and discharges, and compressed gas networks, are both treatable in line, without touching the building structure.
• Diesel generators and air compressors are usually handled with an enclosure plus an exhaust silencer, with the cooling path designed at the same time.
• Where emissions have to be reduced as well as noise, selective catalytic reduction can be integrated into the same exhaust assembly.
• Removable exhaust insulation blankets reduce both radiated noise from the pipe surface and touch temperature. The manufacturer states a temperature limit of 1200 C, an asbestos-free construction, and that the blankets are removable and reusable.
• All of this is priced against the project specification, and supplied to the project contractor to install.
